Flaxseed
Linum usitatissimum L.
Flax, also known as linseed, is an annual crop with narrow leaves and usually light blue flowers. Its mature seeds are called flaxseeds.
Flaxseeds contain mucilage, dietary fiber, and oil that is high in fat. They are used as food and, traditionally, to treat constipation and mild gastrointestinal symptoms.

Flax forms a slender, upright stem with numerous narrow, lanceolate leaves. Depending on the cultivar, the plant branches to varying degrees.

A rounded capsule develops from the flower. Its chambers contain several flat, shiny, brown, or yellowish seeds.
